From Russian rassol′nik, ultimately from razsol″ brine, pickle (Old Russian rosol″, rossol″; now rassol; from ros-, stressed variant of raz- + solit′ to salt, to pickle (from sol′)) + -nik, perhaps originally as transferred use of Old Russian (in late sources) rosol′nik″ denoting a kind of vessel.
