  • An officer of the Court of Common Pleas who made out all exigents and proclamations in cases relating to outlawry. Also: a similar officer of the Court of King's (or Queen's) Bench in the 18th and early 19th centuries.

Early 16th century; earliest use found in Acts of Parliament. From Anglo-Norman and Law French exigenter from exigent + -er.
