  • (1909–74), Burmese statesman, secretary general of the United Nations 1961–71. He served as the representative of Burma (Myanmar) to the United Nations 1957–61. As secretary general he worked to settle the 1962 Cuban missile crisis diplomatically, to end the Congolese civil war in 1962, and to keep peace in Cyprus in 1964.
