  • Each of three water maidens who are guardians of the Rheingold in Wagner's cycle of operas Der Ring des Nibelungen (first performed 1869–74); (allusively) a young woman, especially one from Germany, who has the blonde hair and strong physique with which the three maidens are usually portrayed.
