  • (1933–67), English playwright; born John Kingsley Orton. He wrote a number of unconventional black comedies, examining corruption, sexuality, and violence; they include "Entertaining Mr Sloane" (1964) and "Loot" (1965). Orton was murdered by his homosexual lover, who then committed suicide.
