The coating or impregnation of a material with albumen or (formerly in Photography) with an albuminous solution. Now rare.
Mid 19th century (in an earlier sense). Either from post-classical Latin albumen, albumin- albumen + -ization, or from albumenize (although this is first attested slightly later) + -ation. With use in biology compare also albumin.
