(1910–97), Roman Catholic nun and missionary; born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in what is now Macedonia of Albanian parentage. She became an Indian citizen in 1948. She founded the Order of Missionaries of Charity, which became noted for its work among the poor in Calcutta (Kolkata) and now operates in many parts of the world. Nobel Peace Prize (1979). She was canonized as Saint Teresa of Calcutta in 2016. Feast day, 5th September.
